The collection contains extracts from Fannie Page Hume's 1862 diary, kept at "Selma," Orange County, Va., together with a copy of the roster of the Albemarle Light Horse (Co. K. 2nd Virginia Cavalry). The collection also contains a brief biography of Captain John Lewis Cochran by Mrs. John M. Preston, copied from the book "Memorial history of the John Bowie Strange Camp, United Confederate Veterans." The collection also contains Isabelle H. Goss's notes taken on addresses delivered before the Albemarle County Historical Society including "The architecture of Monticello" by Fiske Kimball, "The gardens at Monticello" by Edwin Betts, recollections of James Polwell Cocke Southall, "Early schools in Charlottesville and Albemarle County" by Nancy Gordon, G.R.B. Michie and Allen Perkins, recollectins of Norris Watson, "Albemarle beginnings" by Jack Dalton, "Ranger Mosby" by Virgil Carrington Jones, and "Albemarle lands" by Agnes Symmers. The collection also contains an issue of the United Daughters of the Confederacy magazine with a tribute to Carrie C. Burnley by Josephine Cox McPherson.

Fannie Page Hume (1838-1865) of Selma, near Orange, Orange County, Va., was the daughter of David and Fannie (Dade) Hume.
